United We Stand, Divided We Fall

Had to take a break from political writing for a bit while I worked on getting healthy. But, the time has come to get back into the fray. We must all prepare for the 2012 election. Conservatives must hold the line, get out the vote, and take back as much of the Washington DC government as possible. Our goal at the very least must be the ousting of Barack Hussein Obama from the Oval Office. Ideally we should strive for the White House AND both Houses of Congress!

One of my concerns, as we move into the campaign season, is the GOP self-destructing, as has happened before. While vigorous debating and campaigning can really teach us about our candidates, it can also turn into a dog-fight that leaves our side so bloodied by attacks from the Tame Team Media (AKA: Main Stream Media) and other GOP members that Obama just walks, virtually unscathed, back into office.

We need to remember the prejudices of media as we move forward. We need to realize that negatives will flow about whomever we ultimately pick as the GOP candidate. At the same time there will be few negatives uttered bout Obama. So, we need to make sure we are not adding to the negatives about the GOP. If we must speak out against someone . . . speak out against Obama!

While I do not equally like all of the GOP candidates, I am certain that any of them would be better than what we've got now. So let's not destroy our side with infighting that leaves no one standing. Save the truly vicious attacks for battling the enemy on the left.

My preferences lead me towards those who favor smaller government, less taxes, and conservative values. I am very much a TEA Party Republican with some leanings even towards Libertarian. But, I will eventually rally behind whomever heads up the GOP ticket.

Conservatives also need to recognize the reality in politics that our best bet is a GOP candidate. Third parties in America tend to merely be vote splitters, not vote getters. Let's not fall into so much bickering amongst ourselves that we split into little cliques which again accomplish nothing more than paving the way for Obama to walk easily back into possession of the Presidency.

There are words of wisdom to be found in our past. A great American patriot, Patrick Henry, gave us words that I feel need to be the Conservative recipe for success in 2012. Although he said these words more than 200 years ago about the unity of a nation, not a political party, I feel it fits today as well as it did then. If Conservatives do not unite as a group, we will watch our nation fall into decay and cease to be as we know it. As Patrick Henry said:

"Let us trust God and our better judgment to set us right hereafter. United we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions which must destroy that union upon which our existence hangs."

We must be united as Conservatives, whether we are Republican, Independent, Tea Party, Libertarian, and even Democrat. If we want to move government back towards common sense, we must vote as a block. While we might disagree on some of the details, we must ultimately stand together behind the best choice we can mostly agree upon. We probably can't achieve perfection in a candidate, so let's just try for better. Virtually anyone to the right of Obama's views will be better! I think we can all agree on that!
